Biographical details

Leslie Rowe lives in Brompton on Swale, near Richmond in North Yorkshire, and is a Parish Councillor for Richmond. Leslie particularly enjoys the freedom of the Yorkshire Dales and the tea shops along the way!

Leslie is married to his wife Ann, of 17 years, and has three children. 

Leslie Rowe stood for the Green Party in two recent elections. 

• 2005: against William Hague in the General Election, getting one of the best Green results in Yorkshire. 

Leslie claims to have won the only all party hustings in that election in Richmond, with Mr Hague left tongue tied over his support for the Iraq war and the Labour candidate apologising for Tony Blair’s instigation of that war!

• 2007: Leslie came within 54 votes of winning a seat on Richmondshire District Council for Brompton on Swale and Scorton.

Leslie is Managing Director of his own management consultancy and specialises in financial management of public and not for profit organisations. 

As a consequence he is intimately aware of the challenges that face local government and charities in particular. Up until 2007, he was the honorary finance director of Richmondshire Leisure Trust and also supports the Richmond station project and bought one of the paintings from the successful 2008 A1 art exhibition held at the station.

As well as a long professional career, Leslie has been involved in politics since school days. Joining the Liberals, he stood in many local election campaigns around the country, as work would dictate. These include the Greater London Council in 1979, the European Elections (first as an agent in 1984, then as a candidate in the Cotswolds in 1989) and for MP in Croydon North West in 1987 and Ealing Acton in 1992. 

Becoming increasingly disenchanted with the Liberal Democrats, Leslie final left in 2003 to join the Green Party. 

• Leslie qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1976 and 
• gained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) as a mature student in 1994. 

Leslie regularly swims at Richmond pool.
