Boxing clever for all sports

Martin Deane, Chair

Letter in Hull Daily Mail

19 APR 2009

It's great news that St Paul's boxing club can continue its 60 year tradition (Apr 17th) after the 'adjustment' in Council policy.

But the news that Hull City Council is increasing charges for leisure facilities is not so great. (15 April). The price for a junior session for athletics going up from £1.50 to £2.30 is just one example. This is a huge increase of 53%.

There's a credit crisis. There's significant rise in unemployment in the city. In view of the obesity levels in Hull and the financial difficulties many families are facing at the moment surely everything should be done to make sports sessions as accessible as possible.

We would welcome moves to reverse this decision too.

Sincerely,

Martin Deane
