UK power -

  • Labour favours big business, eg nuclear power
  • Nuclear power remains a dangerous polluter because of its byproducts.
  • Nuclear industry keeps its own police force at £57 million a year, including gathering intelligence on anti-nuclear protestors!
  • Nuclear power has a significant CO2 footprint when we include the production of the building of the hi-tech plants, and the mining of uranium
  • Shame Vestas was allowed to close. Lack of subsidies for renewables.
  • A large wind turbine can power 1000 or 2000 houses! Local power.
  • Let's manufacture in this country! Why leave it to foreign companies!?
  • Hull has plans for a giant offshore wind farm - could power Hull and 50% as much again.
  • Energy debate starts with energy conservation, Britain still lags behind the EU in insulation standards, renewable provision
  • Instead of giant projects we should have a variety of smaller projects.
  • "Because we consume so much somebody somewhere in the world will be paying."
  • "If we were more energy efficient we could live within our present energy budget. That's really where we should be challenging ourselves."
  • Huddersfield renewable energy projects cut fuel poverty, employ hundreds of people and have saved £5 million off people's bills.
  • "We're concerned about people and planet."
  • We need Green political representation to make it happen.
